Anthems of the Eras
Anthems of the Eras is a celebration of the songs that outlive their moment, the ones that get handed down, that a whole stadium still knows by heart decades later. It braids the anthems of one generation into the anthems of the one before it, the classics your parents blasted set against the classics their parents called timeless, and makes the case that every era writes music built to last.
The conceit is a series of collisions. The show pairs an unmistakable rock anthem with an equally unmistakable classical one and lets them share the same air, four times over. It is pure crowd delight, a production stacked front to back with tunes everybody already knows, and it hands an ensemble a joyful, high-energy vehicle that lands in the stands from the very first hit.
The music, paired rock and classical:
- We Will Rock You (Queen) with Beethoven's Symphony No. 5
- Sweet Child o' Mine (Guns N' Roses) with Mozart's Queen of the Night
- Paint It Black (The Rolling Stones) with Pachelbel's Canon in D
- Thunderstruck (AC/DC) with Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor
Permissions to arrange are required for the rock selections: We Will Rock You, Sweet Child o' Mine, Paint It Black, and Thunderstruck. The four classical works are in the public domain.
