The Playground

The Playground

The Playground is recess, bottled. It's a show about the pure, unguarded joy of kids at play, the wide-open innocence of a world where the only job is to have fun. Bright, warm, and full of heart, it trades drama and spectacle for something rarer on a competition field: genuine delight. This is the show that makes a whole stadium smile without trying.

The concept comes alive in the staging. The field becomes an actual playground, slides, swings, and see-saws, and throughout the show soloists and small ensembles perform from the equipment, playing their features perched on a slide or rocking on a see-saw. It turns the visual into a living scene and gives your standout players charming, high-visibility moments. It's an accessible, feel-good production with real staging personality, perfect for a program that wants to win a crowd with warmth instead of muscle.

The music:

  • Sesame Street Theme (Joe Raposo)
  • Pure Imagination (Leslie Bricusse)
  • Land of Make Believe (Chuck Mangione)

This show is rated Medium, which lines up with a concert grade of roughly 2.5 to 3.5. That's an approximation. A featured soloist or small ensemble moment can sit toward the top of that range, while full ensemble sections built around visual impact stay lighter on the musical demand.

The rating leans almost entirely on rhythmic and technical difficulty. Keys and meters are chosen to stay band-friendly and to line up with the phrasing the drill needs, and instrument ranges sit inside the grade window rather than pushing its edges.

Permissions to arrange are required for all three selections.
