Zephyr

I’m a nerd - that’s a given. I was playing a video game in some of my rarely-found downtime and during a cutscene, one of the characters on the screen was talking about something and used the word “zephyr.” It really stuck in my head - it’s a word that’s full of depth and color. What does it mean? A warm breeze. You could just say “a warm breeze,” but that’s flat. It’s not an interesting word. It doesn’t stick in your head - not like the word “zephyr.”

That word stuck in my head and I started to think about what that would feel like as a piece of music. Warm harmonies. Dancing lines. A constant forward drive.

I hit “pause” on the game and left the TV behind to sit in my studio, and this project just sprung to life. 

It didn’t take me long to work through the initial sketches and to finally find where the tune was going.

Like a warm breeze, moving through the air, Zephyr isn’t just a simple straight-line path. It has highs and lows, twists and turns. The colors change, as one might move in and out of sunlight and shadow. Sometimes the wind speeds up, sometimes it finds a moment of calm. In the end, you find yourself moving from point A to point B, riding on the warm currents.
