One Small Step

One Small Step tells the story of the moon landing, from the impossible dream of reaching it to the moment a boot finally pressed into lunar dust. It moves through the whole effort: the longing to go, the frantic invention that made it possible, the danger nobody talks about, and then the quiet, staggering payoff of a first step onto another world. It's a show about reaching for something almost nobody believes can be done, and pulling it off.

This show was designed for small bands to be successful. The score includes parts for all instruments, but there is significant doubling across those parts, so any combination of instruments, including less-than-ideal instrumentation, can carry the show in performance.

The story does the rest, stirring and familiar, and a crowd locks onto it from the countdown.

The rating leans almost entirely on rhythmic and technical difficulty. Keys and meters are chosen to stay band-friendly and to line up with the phrasing the drill needs, and instrument ranges sit inside the grade window rather than pushing its edges.
