Tomorrow We're Still Together

If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together...there is something you must always remember.
You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart...I’ll always be with you.
- A. A. Milne
Program Notes
This piece was written as a commission, requested from a very dear friend of mine, Mrs. Danni Schmitt. Mrs. Schmitt is a long- time friend, spanning many different stages of life and in her profession as a band director, has come to be one of the shining stars of teaching: like many teachers, she is faced with many challenges in her classroom - however, Danni is one of those who often finds the silver lining. As such, her students have come to achieve great things in their musically developmental years. Because of the combined elementary and middle school structure of Mrs. Schmitt’s school, she gets to work with her students for as many five years, in their growth in band. At the end of their time with Danni, her students often continue on to great musical endeavors, but they always have that feeling of “home” at Roland Park Elementary and in Mrs. Schmitt’s band room.
This piece was commissioned as Danni’s gift to her 8th graders, as they prepare to move on to their next steps in life. While they won’t be in her band room any longer, Danni always reminds her students that they’ll always have it as a home.
